David Bennett is an Osteopath who has been in practice for over 20 years, and has a particular interest in a light touch Osteopathic method that is suited to preconception and pregnancy, for mothers/babies/children and adults of all ages and walks of life: with a clear focus upon finding original health within.
Dunsborough Osteopathy is situated within the Health on Hayes Clinic, just 10 minutes from Dunsborough town centre. The clinic is surrounded by natural bush, and offers a beautiful and supportive therapeutic environment. Osteopathic treatments encourage therapeutic changes to arise from within a patient’s own body - powered by the body’s own self-healing mechanism. The clinic's primary treatment method utilises light touch, and therefore avoids (where possible) the use of external physical force. David Bennett is the Osteopath in residence, with over 20 years clinical experience and extensive post-graduate training. David is a calm and considerate practitioner, who helps patients re-discover their own self-healing capacity. David also consults from his Perth - Wembley clinic.
'Osteopathy in a Nutshell’ provides the essential information required to assist a patient during their first Osteopathic appointment. Given that an extensive case history is taken during this first appointment and time is of the essence, priority is given to treatment itself instead of answering questions related to treatment. Further reading of this website offers a comprehensive explanation of Osteopathy, that should satisfy most readers. Any further questions can then be answered through your own personal experience of Osteopathy.
3 Steps to Health
”Stillness is not the absence of motion but rather the absence of resistance” ~ Adyashanti
The method of treatment used at Dunsborough Osteopathy aims to activate a patient's own self-healing capacity - and this involves 3 essential steps. The first step of ACCEPTANCE, involves clarifying exactly what is happening inside a patient's body (in a way that the patient themselves is unable to achieve); yet not trying to change or influence things in any way. It is well understood that mirror neurons of empathy within the brain, allow a patient's self-awareness to expand through the presence of an objective observer (therapist) - in Osteopathy this is achieved with hands upon the patient. The second step involves FINDING THE HEALTH present within a person's body, which is the engine room for generating therapeutic change. The Health is found in the place one is least likely to look: within the depth of Stillness. Stillness is the doorway to the Health - yet one must also wait there until the Health arrives to direct the treatment. When it does, it is experienced in a deeply personal way that is difficult to express in words - unconditional love and gratitude is probably the closest. The ability to find the Health within a patient, requires a particular Osteopathic hands-on training - the ability to find that which the mind habitually passes over. A natural receptivity is also important: for if the mind is closed, the Health is unlikely to be found - and this applies to patients as well (they are just as important in this process). The Health can be hidden anywhere either inside the physical body, the bio-electric field surrounding the body, or even further afield. The third and final step essentially looks after itself - the body's self-healing mechanism now has expanded self-awareness (from step 1) and increased vitality (from step 2), enough to generate the MOTION necessary to kick-start a therapeutic change - the Osteopath then supports this unfolding process. Depending upon a patient's sensitivity, the therapeutic process may or may not be felt as movements occurring inside the body, as the Osteopath rests their hand lightly upon the surface (whether a patient feels any change makes no difference to the final outcome). In the end, the proof is in the pudding: when an improvement in symptoms occurs as a consequence of seemingly no external intervention, the general response is 'I don't understand how it works, but it works for me and that's all that matters'.
"It is the objective of the doctor to find health, anyone can find disease." ~ Dr. A.T. Still (Founder of Osteopathy) 1876
PLEASE ENTER RECEPTION UPON ARRIVAL.
If you are a new patient, please plan to arrive at the clinic early. A thorough case history is undertaken plus the treatment itself - so every moment is precious.
Prior to your first appointment, please complete one of the following information forms. Forms will also be available to complete at reception. If you would prefer to complete a form upon arrival, please ensure that you arrive at least 10 minutes early. Thank you.
It is recommended that new patients complete the clinic questionnaire. This questionnaire contains some questions that may seem unfamiliar, yet become more self-evident through one's own experience of Osteopathic treatment. For visitors (local to Dunsborough) who wish to offer their assistance in this clinic research, we would also gratefully welcome their assistance.
